REIC EDMONTON, Chapter 3

Celebrating 55 years of Professionalism 1955 – 2010

A leader in advanced real estate education, the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC) is an association of professionals that has been educating and certifying specialists in real estate since 1955. Our objective is to advance opportunities for people in real estate by: providing lifelong learning; maintaining a relevant resource centre; awarding professional designations; creating networking opportunities; and representing and promoting the real estate industry and profession.

  • In 1955 the Canadian Institute of Realtors (CIR) was formed in Edmonton by Mr. Jack Weber and he became the first President.

  • June of 1962 the Edmonton Chapter was formed and Mr. Jack Weber was its first President with 16 charter members and now has 67 members.

  • In 2008 the chapter won the Don Hill award for the chapter with the most growth, we had a number of CRP members join.

  • The chapter also won the Community Service Award in 2008 for helping out charities such as Coats for Kids, Youth Emergency Shelter, Fusion Community Kitchen and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

IREM EDMONTON, Chapter 54

Celebrating 44 years of Professionalism 1966 – 2010

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) is an association of property managers who have met the strict criteria in the areas of education, experience and ethics.  Founded in 1933, IREM’s mission is to educate property managers, certify their competence and professionalism, serve as an advocate on issues affecting the property management industry and enhance its members’ professional competence so they can better identify and meet the needs of those who use their service.   

  • The Edmonton Chapter was started by George W.T. Grover with 5 members and now has 118 Certified Members. 

  • Over the years the Edmonton Chapter has won the Don Hill Trophy, for attaining the highest level of growth and expansion numerous times.

  • Was the first Chapter in Canada to commence the Friends of IREM program which allows non-designated persons/firms to interact with our members. 

  • Co-hosted the AGM in 1997 with the REIC Chapter at the Sheraton Le Grande Hotel.

  • REIC and IREM Chapters start having joint luncheons and meetings on October of 2000.

  • Successfully lobbied and obtain the approval of Canada 1st ARM Committee which was spearheaded by Chrystal Skead of our Chapter.  Chrystal was appointed as the first ARM Chair on the National Board on October 23, 2000.

  • Co-hosted the AGM “Experience the Energy” in 2006 in Edmonton.

  • In 2006 the first International Canadian Region of IREM #14 was created, Chrystal Skead became the first Regional Vice President to represent Canadian Chapters.

  • Lucien Roy, FRI(E) CPM CMOC of our Chapter became the National President of REIC during 2007/08

  • In 2008 Chrystal Skead CPM®,ARM won the REPAM council member of the year award and is VP of REIC Canada.
