Toronto Chapter Members Running for Director At Large Seats
REIC is proud to announce that two Toronto Chapter members, Johnmark Roberts, FRI and Don Kottick (FRI Candidate Member), are candidates for two Director At Large seats on the TREB Board of Directors.
“We are proud to have industry leaders like Don and Johnmark as members of the Institute,” said REIC Executive Director and CEO Maura McLaren, CAE. “REALTORS® of their caliber help advance the profile of the FRI designation in the industry. Their dedication to the profession helps advance the causes of all real estate professionals,” she added. “We encourage all eligible members to exercise their right to vote and show their support to these candidates.”

REIC Members Receive Industry Recognition
Members Recognized for Exemplary Achievements
Congratulations are in order! Toronto Chapter Past President, Johnmark Roberts, FRI, received the Pierre Beauchamp Award for Individual PAC Achievement from CREA on April 30 in Ottawa in recognition of his contributions to government relations efforts on behalf of REALTOR® interests. This award is only given in years where the Federal Affairs Committee determines an individual deserves special recognition because of their initiative or effectiveness.
The Political Action Committee (PAC) Rep is the driving force behind CREA's PAC network. The work of the individual PAC Rep is the foundation of the Association’s federal government relations program.
Johnmark is the Broker of Record with B&B Associates Realty Ltd., Brokerage.
National Board Director, Winson Chan, FRI, CRES, received the Best Sales Manager - High Rise award at the 2013 Building Industry and Land Development Association Awards on April 26 in Toronto. Winson is the Regional Sales Manager at Tridel.
Tridel, one of Canada’s leading developers, scooped up numerous awards including the most prestigious accolade, the Home Builder of the Year Award.
REIC Notice of Meeting
Special and Annual General Meetings
The Special and Annual General Meetings of the Real Estate Institute of Canada will take place in the Upper Canada Room of the Fairmount Royal York Hotel, Toronto, Ontario at 12:30 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2013.
Voting members were sent an email notice of meeting, with hard copies for those without email addresses. The notice which is posted on the REIC website, under Member Resources>Annual General Meeting (login required), includes:

Voting members who cannot attend the meeting are requested to print out the proxy, complete it and scan or fax it to REIC by the indicated deadline of Wednesday June 5th at 12:30 p.m., EDT.

Ontario's Condominium Act Review
Stage One Findings Report
Better informed, more engaged owners. More effective communication and dispute resolution. Minimum standards and qualifications for managers. These are some of the issues stakeholders from Ontario’s booming condominium sector have identified as priorities for an update of the province’s condominium legislation. Canada’s Public Policy Forum shared its findings on Stage One of a three-phase public engagement exercise that is informing the review of Ontario’s Condominium Act, 1998, the responsibility of the Ministry of Cosumer Services. The next stage of the review process will involve bringing together relevant expertise to work through the priorities indentified and determine the best options for improving the Act, says the report.

REIC Makes Submission to Condominium Act Review
REIC is well positioned to address education requirements and standards of practice in condominium management services
The Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services has initiated a Condominium Act Review through a public engagement process to update the existing Condominium Act, 1998. As the Ministry has identified, this is a big task. There are 525,000 condo units in Ontario and condominiums represent up to fifty percent of the new homes being built. Toronto alone is the fastest growing condo market in North America.
REIC has requested to be included, as a related association, at the Stakeholders’ Roundtable. REIC was a major contributor in the formation of the Condominium Act, 1998 with regard to reserve fund studies and is well positioned to play a similar role in the Ministry’s current Condominium Act Review initiative with regard to condominium managers to address education requirements and standards of practice in condominium management services and provide meaningful protection to the consumer. The attached white paper, entitled, The Condominium Act Review: Developing Balanced Policy for Consumer Protection is REIC's submission to the Ministry.

REIC Executive Director & CEO Presents Awards
Maura McLaren, REIC Executive Director & CEO, attended the Canada-China Realty Professional Association (CCRPA) 2012 Gala on February 4, 2012 in Toronto. The high profile annual awards program was attended by government officials, leaders in the business community, realty professionals and community leaders.
Maura was one of the presenters of the CCRPA Awards. Maura spoke briefly about REIC and the REIC designation programs and courses to the over 500 assembled guests and presented an REIC door prize to a very surprised attendee.

The Institute honoured its best of the year last weekend in Halifax.
This past Saturday night the Real Estate Institute of Canada handed out its 2009 REIC Pursuit of Excellence Awards at the annual REIC Awards Gala. The gala, which was part of the festivities at the 2009 REIC Annual Conference, took place in the Halifax Ballroom of the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia.
