Governance

REIC Governance

Code of Professional Standards

One of the most basic defining features of professionals is that they act in such a way that personal gain is never placed above the best interest or good of the public.

Our members, by their affiliation, set themselves apart as a distinct group of individuals dedicated to higher standards of business practice than the minimum standards set out in the law.

Indicative of their commitment to professionalism, integrity, prudence, competence and full disclosure, REIC members are bound by the REIC Code of Professional Standards. Both a guide and a means of measurement, the REIC Code of Professional Standards is the written and sworn contract which sets out the higher professional imperatives by which members have agreed to adhere to and by extension, helps to safeguard the public. The REIC Code of Professional Standards complements other standards and codes by which Members may be governed.

The REIC Professional Standards Handbook outlines the Professional Standards complaints process and enforcement procedures.

It also includes the REIC Code of Professional Standards, as well as the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Code of Professional Ethics, for which REIC has oversight with respect to Canadian Property Management Members.

It is the responsibility of REIC to maintain and promote the REIC Code of Professional Standards in order to ensure that the credibility of REIC, its designations and its Members is never compromised. It is the obligation of REIC and its Members to be vigilant in ensuring that all Members meet the minimum standards of the REIC Code of Professional Standards, and that violations are promptly brought to the attention of the Professional Standards Committee.

Protecting the Public

Concerned about the behaviour of one of our Members? We promptly address concerns that come to our attention and thoroughly investigate all allegations of unethical conduct of an REIC Member. If you have a concern regarding any unethical conduct of another REIC Member, please fill out the Code of Professional Standards Complaint Form.

Privacy Policy

Safeguarding the privacy of our members and visitors is our outmost priority.  For details, please see our Privacy Policy.
