FRI - fellow of the Real Estate Institute

Earn the FRI Designation

​The FRI designation elevates your status as a real estate practitioner who has acquired advanced skills and knowledge, and met nationally-recognized business and ethical standards. It is acknowledged by the real estate community as a standard of excellence and accomplishment.

The FRI curriculum enhances your knowledge and skills in legal and regulatory issues, advanced negotiation techniques, and professional ethics with real world applications. 

You must have a minimum of ten (10) years of real estate sales experience, hold a valid real estate license and meet all admission requirements to be considered ready for the FRI designation.

FRI Program

To obtain the FRI designation you must complete the following:
​

REIC2600: Ethics in Business Practice
REIC2270: Consumer Behaviour & Negotiating
REIC2280: Legal Issues in Real Estate
REIC2360: The Leasing Process  OR  REIC2361: Negotiation and Documentation in Commercial Leasing
​FIN402: Investment Real Estate - Financial Tools

The FRI Program takes the typical candidate 12-18 months to complete. You have 5 years to complete the program requirements for designation.
Cost
If the program is completed within a year, it will cost the typical candidate who has been accepted into the FRI program approx. $10930 plus taxes.
This is inclusive of the application fee, candidate dues, and all required courses.


APPLY FOR THE FRI PROGRAM

Admission Requirements: What do I need to apply?

Education​
  • Official University or College transcript showing at least two (2) completed electives in related disciplines of Business Law, Finance, Marketing, Economics, or Business Administration, OR​ 
  • REIC may recognize experience-based learning in place of formal educational qualifications as well as non-formal learning which is learning that is undertaken through a structured program but does not lead to a formally recognized qualification
  • Provide proof of any real estate education, training or designation programs that you have completed throughout your career (eg. CIPS, ABR, SRES)
Experience
  • Cover letter and resume highlighting your experience and any experience-based or non-formal learning as required
  • Active involvement in real estate sales for a minimum of ten (10) years
  • First and most recent Trade Transactions Report (eg., MLS Listings)
Expertise
  • Minimum of 1 reference letter (to confirm industry experience and number of years licensed)
  • 2 letters of recommendation (from peers, colleagues, and/or clients)
  • Accolades, sales achievement awards, and/or awards of excellence received during your career (e.g., Diamond Award, Chairman's Club)

APPLY

Complete the application package to apply for the Designation Program. Once your application is approved and you have accepted the REIC Code of Professional Standards, you will become an REIC Candidate and begin your journey to designation.​​
